Many people are stuck on the conveyor belt of life; wake up, go to work, make money, pay bills. Our society has made it very difficult for us to take time off from our daily lives in order to pursue our passions, but if we don’t what do we have to live for?

Having goals and dreams is huge and even if you’re stuck working forty or more hours per week at a job you can’t stand, there’s still a chance for you to achieve happiness and fulfillment.

1) Set short term (but achievable) goals: setting goals is essential in pursuing your dreams. Oftentimes people focus on the big picture and lose their way because it’s taking too long or they don’t know exactly how to get there. Narrowing down your end game into a handful of small yet achievable goals will help you advance your current situation. For example, if you want to open a consulting business for something you’re good at, start giving advice to friends and coworkers and ask them to spread the word about you. Make it a goal to advise a certain number of people per week and you’ll have people approaching you in no time.

2) Educate yourself: even if you’ve majored in a subject and graduated from school, there’s always something new to learn in every subject. Invest your time into learning all that you can and more about the things you really want go do in life and you’ll feel more confident in your abilities and become an expert in that field.

3) Find people who are where you’d like to be: meeting new people and networking with them will help you gain insight into the life you’ve been dreaming of living. People are often willing to tell their success stories. If you can’t find anyone you know personally, research people who have had success in your particular field online. You should be able to find some biographies and get new ideas on how to get your foot in the door.

4) Don’t give up: it can be very difficult to stay focused on your end game when you’re drowning in work and stress from bills, low paying jobs, and constant sting of regret doesn’t help. It’s important to constantly remind yourself why you are pushing yourself so hard in a temporary work situation. Think about how happy you will be once you have made your dream come true. Use that feeling to motivate yourself to never give up.

If you feel stuck in life and feel unfulfilled because you’re not exactly where you want to be, there’s time to get there. Life should be more than going to work just to pay your bills. If you have a dream you want to pursue go after it because you deserve more!

  1. Post like these will never get old, because misery is always lurking in the back of my head while working, then with that repeated question “will this be forever” but your post answered my question by saying no its not. Thank you- Kamasduty blog#3
