Your burning the candles at both ends, running behind a toddler, demanding spouse and negative bosses. One day it all comes crashing down on you. Your health is suffering, your hair is suffering and you have gained 20 pounds. You look in the mirror and do not recognize the once, sexy, cute, mover and shaker. What do you do? Resign, and start all over.
The choice I made was due to a frank conversation with my primary care physician. He look at me and said, I was stressed, tired, needed a break and career change. He told me to return to college and finish working towards my PHD. I took some of his advice and quite my teaching job after an exhausting meeting with my principal. Who, by the way, I never liked and I know for a fact did not like me. I was too liberal and he was too conservative. It didn’t help that I was teaching in a conservative school district and I was from and currently reside in a liberal city.
My best day was emailing my prinicpal nine days after my doctor placed me on mandatory bed rest for my exhaustion and rendered my resignation. It was the best feeling I had in eight in a half years. Did I miss my students, absolutely! Did they stress me out, absolutely! Oh! I didn’t tell you I am a certified special education teacher; as well as, mother of an autistic toddler! Sorry! Lol! So I work my tail off at work and transfer that hard work into my home life. Purchasing wine on Friday’s was my happy place.
On the other hand, I was done in with the stress of it all. Blogging allowed me to retreat to my original happy place: expression! This was my best day ever! I begin blogging about things I loved to do: makeup, news, gossip, movitation, etc,. When you are ever in a situation like mine, there are a few steps you should take:
- Pray daily for a sign of what to do.
- Seek help from a doctor or therapist.
- Begin looking for another job.
- Be willing to walk away.
I did fine another teaching position closer to home, but in a more politically safe environment. I no longer felt judged, I still blog and am currently looking for a position in my sons school district to be closer to him. I have an interview next Tuesday! Wish me luck💞
