“Life is like a river that’s constantly moving. It’s what we do with the River when it’s moving that counts.”

What does that even mean? Your life is a River. Whether we make a difference in our lives or not, our lives are not stopping and waiting for our choices. It keeps moving. They key to a moving river is making sure you have resources to ride the waves. If you do not have the resources, how do you get them? Ask for them. You can work to earn them.

I will never forget my freshman year of college. Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston, Louisiana. The hardest, exciting and motivating years of my life. I worked at Chick Fila, in the student union. I had a church scholarship and student loans. I needed more money for books. I called home to my mother. I told her I needed money for books. She said, “I didn’t tell you to go to college. You decided to got to college, so you figure it out.”

That conversation would have defeated a weaker person. It made me stronger. I wrote her a letter telling her I needed to end our conversations going further so I can become successful in college. I got a job on campus. I keep moving with my River.

I still think of that moment sometimes. I feel numb to it now twenty years later. However, I am proud of myself for not giving up. I found my life vest and keep sailing ⛵️down my river of life. Always remember that Life is a River, constantly moving and the key to moving with the river is the resources and skills to develop to learn to sail along with it.

Happy Sailing ⛵️

  1. V well written… The river is constantly turning and bending and you never know where it’s going to go and where you’ll wind up. Following the bend in the river and staying on your own path means that you are on the right track. Don’t let anyone deter you from that

  2. I’m so glad you found you life vest, out it on and sailed down the river of life with purpose! Sometimes we just have to decide we’re capable, or ready, and everything will turn out just fine. It always does. Keep on sailing through life! ⛵

  3. Can’t agree more..absolutely true..besides ,someone too told me one line which keeps me going in odd situations -> “Whenever you are facing undesirable events , remind yourself that just as as good times didn’t last for long, even bad times won’t.Every ordeal definitely has to end somewhere & there are no two options about it “
