“You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”― Walter Hagen

What if you met Walter Hagen and he said “You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” Would you take the time to listen?

You know Mr. Hagen makes a good point here because life can too short as it is. And if we hurry scurry and fret and worry, our enjoyable precious moments will be wasted. We need to develop a thicker skin and learn to devoid ourselves of dark spaces. Dark spaces are those cobwebbed tunnels in our memory not worth keeping. It will behoove us to take a step back with a feather duster and clean up the mess. Now we have more room for the good stuff.

I’ve seen many exceptional articles on the subject of how to eliminate stress, and how to not worry about “things and stuff”. I imagine you have read a few of them, as well. And yes, I have and find them very useful. So this article is not going to be a listicle of what I would do or not do to keep my mind clear of clutter.

What I’m trying to convey is we should take the time to read those worthy articles and apply what we feel is beneficial to our well-being. Select statements, quotes, snippets, etc. that stand out as being useful, practical and reachable. Keep them in your database or in a format of your choosing.

I’m as guilty as the next person by not taking advantage of reading a well written useful article. I get all tangled up in the news via the media and worry and fret about “stuff” I can’t control. So, I am going to try harder to take the time and be selective about what I read.

I don’t want my thoughts to resemble gnarly slivers of moldy bark when the scent of lovely flowers can prevail and dominate my mind with tranquility.

Thank you Walter Hagen for reminding us of something we should already know. Common sense, my friend, common sense.

This is the second in a series of “What if you met (insert author’s name) and he/she said (insert quote)”.

Cheers!
