There are countless book and articles on how to be happy, but do you think chasing happiness increase your happiness level?  In fact we don’t exactly know what makes us happy.  If you get a well salaried job today is it really increases your happiness level?  Chasing happiness is actually creating pressure on you that you have to be happy all time. It increases your frustration and anxiety.

I have admitted my little daughter in a reputed school recently. My wife and I feel happy at the day of admission. But as soon as the school started different type of issues arises and my happiness converted into anxiety. So I feel this was my misunderstand on happiness. All this misunderstanding allows us to chase happiness throughout our lives rather getting original happiness.  We forget to welcome the joy in our life as we are busy to chase happiness every day.

Here are 4 common reasons for what you must stop chasing happiness immediately.

1. Happiness is the combination of both positive and negative emotion.

Do you think that there is total absence of negative emotion in the happiness?  Do you want to stay happy for 24×7 ? Is it really meant to stay always smiling?  My dear friend it is not mandatory to cut all the negative emotion for happiness. To live the live fullest you have to experience both good and bad feelings.

Life is so complex, some events you may feel happy and in some events you may feel bad. That is life and that how it should be.

Positive emotion make you feel good but negative emotion make you feel anxious, frustrate and unstable. But you can discover the wrong things during this unstable condition and alert yourself by taking corrective action.  This misunderstanding makes us unhappy.  Hence you must stop chasing happiness immediately.

2. Happiness fuels success.

Do you feel happy when the basics need is fulfilled? Or you start to think for more money, more comfort, being famous etc. for finding more happiness. Do those entire chasing thing make you happier?  Once I was found that the research shown winners aren’t happier than losers. The winners are feeling the achievement at the moment and then return back to previous happiness level they was. If you try remaining clam mind and a present being, you will feel less stress and frustration and will be more productive. Ultimately it will give you happy and meaningful life.

The happiest people don’t have the best of everything; They just make the best of everything.

3. Become lonelier.

I feel that chasing happiness for wanting to be happy has actually the opposite effect whether being happy can be good for building social connection. Because when I start to chase happiness I become self-centric and ignore focus on other things or people around us. As a result I become feel loneliness.

4. There is no formula for happiness.

Do you have any single formula for happiness? Even I have not although I have written so many article on happiness so far. I think every person is unique in this world and they need to create unique life for fulfilled their life. Actually there is no one size fits all for happiness. You may be happiest as blogger or may be a responsible father or become a successful entrepreneur. It’s depends only on you. You have to keep a balance between the momentary joy and the sense of purpose for fulfillment of life.

  1. In all honesty, i always battle this. It uses to always be a gauge as to how well my life was going. If I wasn’t 100% happy, I thought things would need to change and I would always look for something else. I think that we should look fir opportunities, understand ourselves, and practice gratitude to actually live a better life.
