“If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.” – Theodore Roosevelt

What if you met Theodore Roosevelt and he said “If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.”?

Well, my oh my! Who could this be?! Could this be me, myself and I or you, yourself and you?

Sometimes we don’t comprehend the root of the cause because we are too eager to place the blame elsewhere.

Perhaps, it is due to not wanting to be in the wrong. We don’t want a strike against our name because of having to face the consequences later on. For example, we didn’t live up to expectations in our job resulting in an unfavorable review. So, yes if this was something we could have prevented from the get go and did nothing about it, then we probably deserve a kick in the pants.

I am not saying that all of our troubles are a result of our own doing because that’s not always the case. A tornado can rumble and roar through our neighborhood wreaking havoc in our lives. The storm itself or the aftermath of this horrific event may cause serious troubles for us, but it is not our fault. Mother nature may deserve the kick in the pants, don’t you agree?

I feel if we are honest with ourselves and own up to our mistakes, then sitting down may be a lot more comfortable. And I mean being honest because we don’t want to become a pin cushion and take the blame for acts we did not commit. And we don’t want to beat up ourselves because we thought we were wrong when in fact, we were right.

So, I take Theodore Roosevelt’s quote as a warning that if we’re not selective in making sound decisions, and we’re not being responsible for our actions, then we have only ourselves to blame.

I’m quite fond of this quote because it is food for thought and instills the need to take inventory of ourselves.

If you have different view, don’t hesitate to let me and our readers know.

This is the first in a series of “What if you met…
