“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.”  The Wolf of Wall Street

Your mindset is the reason you succeed or fail with anything in life. I believe that the way you think and visualize situations in the future truly has a significant impact on how they actually unfold. A positive and determined mindset ca usually lead to success, whereas, a negative and even just neutral mindset can often lead to failure.

I know people who, when told things like this, react and say words like, “Telling myself that I can do it won’t just magically make it happen.” Now I can see where their sceptic thoughts come from but I think that it is essential for those people and others who aren’t exactly very positive in everyday life or situations where they don’t feel comfortable to realize that the things you say and repeat in your head are the things that will translate into your actions. If you constantly tell yourself something, subconsciously that attitude, mindset, action or whatever it is will begin to regulate through you automatically without effort.

Now maybe you’re thinking something like “well, obviously you should have a positive and focused mindset in life Baran”. I feel like for a lot of people they know this information but often forget to use it, I know at times I do. Here are a couple scenarios where I found that creating a positive mindset made all the difference. Hopefully, you can relate and apply these thoughts to help better your life.

With exercising, if your mindset isn’t absolutely focused then good luck on making progress because it will be a long journey. Before each movement, you must set a goal to hit and tell yourself that you will reach it no matter what. Without a clear outlook on what’s about to happen often people will come short, you have to think and speak of how many minutes, sets or reps you are going to perform.

The gym is the place where I realized the most that I wouldn’t be saying or visualizing myself achieving a certain number, I would just begin the exercise and “think” I was giving it my all. So with that, and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to this feeling, you think “alright I’m going to go as hard as I can for this exercise” but then as soon as you experience pain your brain automatically starts trying to find ways to minimize the exercise to avoid the harsh feeling. This leads to failure of anyone’s full potential.

The determined mindset says that no matter what I feel, no matter how my brain says it’s okay to cut the movement short, I will reach my set number.
Social Situations

I know that for me it used to be very hard to talk to people, not that I’m amazing now but for sure recognizing and altering my mindset from an always negative approach definitely has helped. If you constantly think happy and positively, you begin to give that vibe off during social situations. I’m sure most of us can think of someone in their life who effortlessly communicates with others, I find that often even on their own they’re genuinely caring and expressive people.

I found that it was easiest for me to talk to other people when I was excited for something like a trip or event because it just always puts me in a great mood thinking about it. If there is nothing particularly exciting happening soon in my life I will usually think of the situations where I would encounter people as an opportunity to improve my social skills and in a way “trick” my mind to be excited.

It’s all about how you perceive situations and how you react to them. It’s all up to you…

Change your mind and it’ll change your life.
