A piece of paper on the street, beat up and torn, was attractive for some reason. I picked it up, it was partly drenched; the words were slipping off the page. It wasn’t a love note, neither was it made of words of hate. It spoke of resuscitation, but from what, I did not understand. I read it over and over again, and it remained, dampening my hand. A man bumped into me, his coffee now on my jacket. Watch it, he tells me and resumes his hustle. I forgot New York was my land. Back to the note, I read again, but why can’t I understand? Hieroglyphics shield the page, but language I understand. So I need a translator? Hire him, I can.

He was perfectly strange, this stranger was. He was smart and elegant and courteous. He was different and complementary. We fit like jigsaw puzzle pieces. This stranger was perfect until I came to know him. But that’s what perfection is, isn’t it? It is picturesque and Hollywood until we begin to examine it. Like all models, it is bright and seductive, but when we finally gather the courage to look closely, we begin to see its pores and blemishes. Quick to judge, we assume either the worst or absolute perfection and that vision crowds our perception.

A salmon in the river swam steadily upstream and regressed, then again, swam steady then regressed. The water resisted as he swam against it,but propelled him effortlessly as he regressed back downstream. He swam forward eight feet then retreated five. As he advanced, the water around him began to whir as all the other salmon swam head on towards the nearing waterfall. The rocks towered the water high and caused it to fall with such brute force. He watched the other salmon as they disappeared right above the blurry water fizz.
